Mastering Life: Why Simmons Chiropractic Clinic?

Mastering life is about digging down to the sub-atomic level, asking the hard questions, and discovering the answers, so that at the end of the day, we can continue to stay motivated when the going gets tough. It is a bit like looking at the outer leaves of a tree and wondering why they are that particular texture, color, and taste. If you look at any live plant under a microscope, the pattern is the same as what you see with the naked eye. Human beings are no different. If you were seeking chiropractic care, why would you want to spend your money unless you knew the intention of the people who were providing the service?  Asking the question why can help broaden the understanding, mastering life in the process. Having the patience to continue asking why...

Mastering Life with the Sabbath

Mastering Life with the Sabbath

Sabbath: The day God wants to dance with us. He stops what He is doing, puts down His pen, and looks to see who is looking back at Him. Then He dances. We are so busy during the week. I know for myself, I spend a lot of time talking to Him and asking Him for help and advice, expecting Him to respond in His usual fashion, which is that He will give me the answer as I go along. I listen, but I am also intent on what I am doing. Dancing is a different type of listening: being in tune with the nuances of your partner and paying attention to the other person’s movements while attempting to be in unity with that individual as you go across the floor. That is what I want in my life–to maintain the position of dancing with God. Sure, I do a lot of what I want to...

Weight Loss Transformation: Mastering Life

Recently, I wrote a blog post for Kathy Brandon, founder of Ready for Happiness, titled How to Be Happy With Yourself. I received a lot of feedback from what I wrote and wanted to back up my claims with pictures. They say a picture is worth a 1,000 words, so this blog will be short on words and long on pictures, otherwise I might overwhelm the reader! The dress I am wearing at Amy’s graduation is one of my creations. Finding this heavily beaded top at a thrift store that actually fit me was a delight since it could be worn in a variety of ways. Yes, my hair was actually that long, and fell in ringlets; the last time I allowed it to grow to that length was in junior high. In my blog, I reference that: Tailoring is my vocational trade, and I employed it at...

Mastering Life with a Covenant of Love

Does the type of covenant that David and Jonathan instituted sound familiar to you? What other relationship in scripture describes an eternal covenant? How does love figure into this “new” covenant? The Word of God describes a number of eternal covenants, typically between God and a specific person, which always carried forward to future generations. In mastering life with a covenant of love, even David was given an eternal covenant by God. He thought that He would create a temple for the God of Israel, but Nathan came to him with a word from the Lord, telling him that this task would be given to his son after him, and that David’s lineage would be established for ever. As you can imagine, this overwhelming news caused David to sit before the Lord in awe and...

David and Mephibosheth: Mastering Life with Love

How do you keep a covenant with someone after they are dead? Did Jonathan have any offspring? What did David do to remember his covenant with Jonathan? In scripture, a covenant is eternal, and remains in effect as long as one of the descendants of the original covenant creators are still alive. The terms of the covenant stand even if one party breaks the original agreement. In mastering life with love, David was obligated to care for Jonathan’s children, and indeed, his heart was strongly motivated to do so because of the love he carried for Jonathan: And the king said, “Is there not still someone of the house of Saul, that I may show the kindness of God to him?” And Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan, son of Saul, came to David and fell on his face and paid...

David and Jonathan: Mastering Life with Love

What was the basis of the covenant David made with Jonathan? What were the parts of that covenant? How did the two of them keep the covenant they made with each other? Mastering life with love, for David and Jonathan, was creating a covenant founded on “he loved him as his own soul.” Can we even begin to understand what the text means when it says, “the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David?”  Love can take on a peculiar form sometimes, and in this case, it was beyond all reason that Jonathan should love his “enemy,” so to speak, as he should have been the one to inherit the throne, not David. The love Jonathan had for David also put him in a very disconcerting position with his father, Saul, whose jealousy of David increased with every...
