Planned Obsolescence: Understanding the Experiences of Life

“Planned obsolescence” my friend said to me in our conversation regarding the brand new vehicle he is driving. Catching my imagination with his turn of a phrase, and understanding the experiences of life are there for my benefit, I began to mull over this idea.  Obsolescence is the state of being which occurs when an object, service, or practice is no longer wanted even though it may still be in good working order. This describes the vehicle I drive, a 1984 El Camino, which I am very fond of and desire to renovate. Planned obsolescence in industrial design is a policy of planning or designing a product with a limited useful life, so it will become obsolete, that is, unfashionable or no longer functional after a certain period of time.
