Joy and gratitude greeted the gift of the feminine hygiene kits to the girls and teachers of IEC, Nairobi, Kenya, February 2016.

Words fail to describe the overwhelming joy expressed by the girls and teachers of IEC who received the feminine hygiene kits provided by Days for Girls (DFG). Celeste Mergens, the founder of the faith based organization, requires kit distribution be accompanied by education and feminine hygiene care in a workshop. At first the girls were shy, not comprehending exactly what they were receiving, since lacking any proper hygiene care during their menstrual cycle meant the girls just stayed home, missing five days a month. When the kits were distributed and the instruction was over, kisses and hugs from the girls demonstrated the gratitude for their gift.

Describing the benefits of using scripture in prayer to the teachers of IEC, Nairobi, Kenya, February 2016.

The crowning achievement of the project was providing a two-hour professional development workshop for the 14 instructors of IEC, who receive a sub-standard salary for teachers in Nairobi and are unable to afford continuing education. Jean Bons, The Teachable Spirit, Seasoned Professional Speaker, and Interpreter of God’s Word, spoke on prayer, how it can overcome all the obstacles that these teachers face in their environment, and how to use scripture in prayer.

The BAL Course at Multimedia University emphasized integrity and keeping one’s word, Nairobi, Kenya, February 2016.

The Being a Leader and the Effective Exercise of Leadership (BAL) Course conducted at the Multimedia University in Nairobi, sponsored by Emkay (East Africa) and the faith based organization, Global Partners for Development, provided excellent training for Douglas Monene, Founder of IEC and Jean Bons, The Teachable Spirit.

Cramming a semester-long graduate-level course into one week was no small feat for the 95 community, NGO, and parliament leaders, academic professors, and public servants, from 14 countries seeking to understand the practice of leadership on the court rather than from the stands. The BAL Course provided a framework for Jean and Douglas to realize that after four visits to the school, their work together was complete.
